You’ll Never Know

The pain of never being enough

No matter how hard you try,

The pain of holding in your tears

When you really need to cry.

The fear of asking for what you want

And of asking for what you need

The fear of setting healthy boundaries

Because of the desperate need to please

The weight of carrying generations of trauma

And issues you never asked for,

The weight of wondering if you’ll break the cycle

Or repeat the patterns of generations before.

I hope these are things you’ll never know

I hope these are things you’ll never be,

And with all my heart I really do hope

That the cycle can stop with me.

As part of my recovery from perinatal mental illness, I am writing about my experiences and my relationship with my daughter. If you enjoyed this you may also like the other things I have written. Follow Mom, Interrupted to stay up to date with my journey as a mom with mental health problems.
