Things You Will Have Heard If You Were a Shy Child

And how to nurture shy children the right way.

Being a kid is hard. Being shy is hard. Being a shy child is even harder. As a shy child here are some of the words of wisdom people offered me, even though I never bloody asked because I never bloody talked and honestly why do these people exist?

“She’ll grow out of it.”

Haha! Joke’s on you. I’m still shy. What do you say to that? Because I’m most likely not going to say anything so it’s down to you to carry this conversation.

“You need to push her harder.”

Yes, because putting people under psychological strain has never been proven to cause lasting issues. Ever. Go for it.

“Maybe she’s depressed.”

I don’t know if there’s any correlation, but I was fine until you started diagnosing me, Sharon.

“You need to stop this. I’m worried about how you’ll turn out when you’re older”

Stop what? It’s not like I’m shoving Lego up my bumhole or eating crayons. I’m just quiet. Jesus Christ…
