My Little Girl and Me

A poem for my daughter as I work through my postnatal depression.

No one sees my darkest thoughts

And how lonely it can be,

No one sees how hard I try

For my little girl and me.

No one hears me cry

When I try to get out the door,

No one hears me say to myself

I can’t take this anymore.

No one feels the pain as I wonder

How it feels like to be happy,

No one feels the grief and longing

For who I used to be.

But my love for her makes me strong

And there’s a future I can see,

Where the sun is bright and warm again

For my little girl and me.
